Hey fellow dog lovers! Once you’ve booked your dog photography session, it’s time to start preparing for your photo shoot. I’m so excited to meet you and your pup! Now, let’s talk about how to make sure your dog’s photoshoot is a tail-wagging success.
You might be wondering, “What do I need to bring?” Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! Think of it like packing for a fun outing with your dog, with a focus on keeping them happy, comfortable, and camera-ready.
Here’s your essential checklist for a fantastic dog photography session:
1. The all-important treats!
Think of treats as your secret weapon! They’re crucial for holding your dog’s attention and encouraging those adorable poses.
Bring a variety of small, high-value treats that your dog absolutely loves. Think tiny pieces of chicken, cheese, or those special dog biscuits they go crazy for.
Variety is key! If your dog gets bored with one treat, you’ll have backups.
Remember, small treats are best so they don’t fill up too quickly.
2. A reliable leash and collar
Safety first! A sturdy leash and collar are essential for keeping your dog secure during the session, especially if we’re shooting outdoors.
A simple, clean leash and collar will look best in photos. Avoid bulky options that might distract from your dog’s beautiful face. If you and your dog are comfortable with it, a slim slip rope leash is a great option for photos.
I prefer to not use a harness for our dog photography sessions if possible, as they are difficult to remove in post-production. However, safety is the most important thing to me. If you are most comfortable with your dog in a harness, then this is how we will proceed!
3. Their Favorite Toy (or Two!)
Toys are fantastic for capturing your dog’s playful personality!
Bring a favorite toy that your dog loves to chase, fetch, or chew on. This will help them relax and have fun during the shoot.
A squeaky toy can be especially useful for getting their attention and creating those adorable head tilts.
Having a few different toys can add variety to your photos and keep your dog engaged.
Why are these things so important?
Essentially, we want to create a positive and enjoyable experience for your dog. By bringing treats, we can reward them for good behavior and encourage them to look at the camera. A leash and collar ensure their safety, while their favorite toys help them relax and show off their playful side.
A Few Extra Tips:
Bring water (for you and your dog): Especially if it’s a warm day.
Brush your dog: A quick brush before the session can help them look their best.
Let your dog exercise: A little exercise before the session can help them burn off excess energy and be more relaxed during the shoot.
Relax and have fun! Your dog will pick up on your energy, so the more relaxed you are, the more relaxed they’ll be.
I’m so excited to create beautiful memories with you and your furry friend! By bringing these essential items, we’ll ensure a smooth and enjoyable photography session that captures your dog’s unique personality.
