Whether it’s your senior portraits, a family photo, a couples shoot, or a fun session with your furry friend, choosing the right outfit is key to creating stunning images. Let’s dive into some tips to help you look and feel your best!
General Guidelines for All Sessions:
Comfort is Key: You’ll be moving and posing, so choose outfits that allow for comfortable movement.
Consider the Location: All my sessions are outdoors, so think about the setting and how your outfit will complement it.
Seasonal Inspiration: Embrace the beauty of nature! Let the colors of the season guide your clothing choices. Warm, earthy tones for fall, light and airy colors for spring and summer, and rich, deep colors for winter.
Color Choices: A Note on Neons
While I love vibrant colors, I generally recommend avoiding neon shades. They can sometimes appear overly bright on camera and may not translate well in prints. If you have a specific look in mind that includes neons, please discuss it with me beforehand!
Instead, consider muted tones, jewel tones, pastels, and classic neutrals. These colors tend to photograph beautifully and create timeless images.
Specific Outfit Tips:
1. High School & College Seniors
Consider your school colors or future college colors for a personalized touch.
Showcase your personality! Choose outfits that reflect your style and interests.
Bring a variety of outfits to create different looks. Think casual, dressy, and something that represents your hobbies.
2. Families
Layering is your friend: Layering creates depth and texture in photos.
Coordinate Colors: Aim for a cohesive color palette rather than identical outfits. Choose 2-3 colors and have everyone wear variations of those shades. However, if matching is your goal, I welcome this too!
Think about a theme: If you are photographing in a setting such as a field of wildflowers, consider using complimentary colors.
3. Couples
Think about your love story. For example, if you met at the beach, consider beachy colors.
Complement each other’s outfits. Choose colors that harmonize and reflect your relationship.
Consider the location and time of day. A sunset shoot might call for warmer colors, while a daytime shoot in a park might suit lighter shades.
4. People And Their Pets
Keep it simple: you want the focus to be on the connection between you and your pet.
Coordinate with Your Pet: Consider your pet’s fur color when choosing your outfit. For example, if your dog has golden fur, earthy tones or blues can look stunning.
Seasonal Outfit Ideas:
Spring: Light pastels, floral prints, and denim.
Summer: Bright, airy colors, flowy dresses, and lightweight fabrics.
